Who

Violet Farrer (guitar, violin, vocals), Nina Winder-Lind (cello, guitar, vocals), Kate Mager (bass, vocals) and Ella Oona Russell (drums, flute, vocals) are The New Eves, the Brighton neo-folk outfit pioneering ‘hagstone rock’. A commanding quartet who have the presence of a band much further along in their career than a debut album, demonstrating captivating originality and magnetic energy.

What

The New Eves craft a new blueprint in ‘hagstone rock’, a self-coined term named after the magical sea-worn beach stones used for protection. Recorded between Bristol’s Cotham Parish Church and legendary Welsh residential recording studio Rockfields, The New Eve is Rising captures an atmosphere of horror, from the chanting dirge-like vocals of the Highway Man, the haunting Scandinavian wails on Cow Song, or the cello-drones on opener The New Eve. Layering cello, violin, flute, guitar, bass and drums, this project is made of up of spells rather than songs, inspired by mythology and feminist spirit, drawing on music’s most primal sounds experienced in punk, new-wave, kraut-rock, drone, folk, poetry and more.
