A hotly anticipated album of 2023, Partisan signed Blondshell (Sabrina Teitelbaum) has firmly caught our attention as an artist on an upward trajectory, making a bold introduction of her developed sound and character with the release of her self-titled debut.
Influenced by 90’s alt-rock from the likes The Cranberries, Liz Phair and Cocteau Twins, Hole. Blondshell builds on the coming-of-age pop anthems of her career beginnings to step into a sound territory that is truly her own.
The energy and rage of Dry era PJ Harvey, Blondshell is potent but composed in her lyrics, emotionally open about painful feelings, difficult situations and the common experiences of many 20- somethings today (breakups, relationships, therapy, drugs, drinking, independence and more).
Clear vinyl with a printed inner sleeve featuring photos and lyrics.
Celebrating her debut release with a UK and European tour amongst her run of spring/summer festival dates, we were very lucky to catch Blondshell for an in-store performance and signing at Rough Trade East. Whilst we had the rising star in our midst, she indulged in some Shoplifting, sharing a significant snapshot of the music responsible for making her Blondshell.
One of my favourite albums from the 70s. I think that he’s the most overlooked Beach Boy and perhaps the best Beach Boy. So I had to pick this one. A favourite.
I had to pick a B.B. King live album because I started listening to him when I was eighteen. It made me want to get better at guitar. It was just a huge inspiration for me, listening to his live music.
Life Without Buildings! This one we’ve been listening to on tour right now. We have been listening to this in the van a lot, so I had to include it.
This Yves Tumor album is a new one that came out this year. Zero skips. I think that with their albums, it’s all about that you go into their world. It’s not that they are coming into your world and analysing it. You are going into their world. I love that in an album.
I was listening to this on the way here! It took me a hot minute to get to this store and I listened to this all the way. I love every song on this album. It reminds me of 2000’s TV shows. You know what I mean, Grey’s Anatomy and all that!
Julia Jacklin. I saw her at The Fonda, maybe about six months ago. It made me go back and listen to Crushing. I don’t remember what year it came out. But I know that when I heard it, I was like holy shit! This songwriting is incredible.
I wanted to include them in some way as it’s my sort of quintessential, indie-girl listening type thing. When I met my boyfriend, we were at a party. I was having a bad day and I asked “Can somebody turn this shit music off? Whatever this is, this is so bad.” He was like, “what are you trying to listen to? The Cocteau Twins?” And I replied “Yes! You absolutely guessed what it was.”
Join us at Wide Awake this Saturday where Blondshell joins Viagra Boys, CIVIC, Jockstrap and Daniel Avery signing records in the Rough Trade tent. 4pm. See you there.
