Live From Abbey Road, the acclaimed Sundance series featuring performances and interviews with musicians, highlights both emerging independent artists as well as legendary industry veterans on episode 8. The episode kicks off with British alternative rock band Elbow performing songs off of their latest album The Seldom Seen Kid. The five-piece band has achieved success internationally with their four studio albums, four EPs, and ten Top 50 singles on the UK charts. They start their set with “Grounds for Divorce”, which charted in the UK Top 20, followed by dreamlike yet up-tempo “The Bones of You” and the impressive and almost orchestral “One Day Like This”. The songs highlight the intricate and resonant sound of Elbow’s fourth album.
MGMT, the two piece Brooklyn-based band follows Elbow in the legendary Abbey Road studio and performs two songs from their colorful 2008 release, Oracular Spectacular. MGMT has skyrocketed to success with their latest release, charting internationally and being featured in numerous respected music magazines. They will perform their hit “Electric Feel” along with triumphant “Time to Pretend”.
Seven-time Grammy winner Alanis Morrisette closes episode 8, playing songs from her chart topping albums Jagged Little Pill and Under Rug Swept. Not only a musician and songwriter, Alanis is also revered for her production skills. She wraps up episode 8 with renowned contemporary classic songs “Hands Clean”, “Perfect”, and her 1995 hit “Hand in my Pocket”.
