Reality Show Recap: Snoop Ego Trips on ?Father Hood?
18 February 2008Every week on the new E! series Father Hood, Snoop Dogg takes you into the mundane shiznit of being both a family man and a potty-mouthed hip-hop icon. Here’s our ninth Rock Reality Recap:
Thirty Minutes in Two Sentences: Snoop spends all-nighters in the studio finishing up his ninth album, Ego Trippin’, in addition to traveling to New York and Buenos Aires for big performances. Feeling neglected, Snoop’s wife boss lady starts her own clothing line named after her three children.
Kin and Juice: Shante enlists her only daughter, “little boss lady” to help launch her new clothing line. They rent out a space, find a manufacturer and even get hooked up with a window display in Beverly Hills. Snoop says his wife, who comes from a long line of hustlers, will be happier pursuing a business endeavor instead of wondering why Snoop skipped out on the family dinner.
It’s a Doggy Dogg World: The self-proclaimed hardest-working man in the music business since James Brown died, Snoop held high standards for his latest project, telling producer Teddy Riley, “You’re too good to just throw your shit in the ocean and let it swim with the fish.” The concept of the album is Snoop’s transition between being a street man to a family man who still can’t say goodbye to the hustle. In a joint memorial performance for Jam Master J in New York (”the temple of rap”), DMC calls Snoop the “Bob Dylan” of hip-hop. Snoop also gets help from DJ Quick and Will.i.am for his ego trip.
Snoopism of the Day: Snoop didn’t have time for the formal Snoopguistics lesson of the episode, but he explained his new album title as representing the end of him being “nice, humble and a pushover.” Did we miss the pushover phase of Snoop’s career? Snoop vowed to stay ego-trippin’ until he was done with the project that would come from the three D’s: “discipline, dedication and desire.” Next week Snoop asks the boss lady to renew their vows.
