JUDAS PRIEST’s ‘Redeemer Of Souls’ Projected To Sell 25K-28K First Week

JUDAS PRIEST‘s new album, “Redeemer Of Souls”, is likely to sell between 25,000 and 28,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on July 8 via Epic. The chart will be unveiled on Wednesday, July 16.

JUDAS PRIEST‘s 2008 double-disc concept album, “Nostradamus”, shifted 42,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 11 on The Billboard 200 chart. This marked the band’s highest-ever chart position in the U.S. In Canada, the CD opened at position No. 9 after moving close to 4,000 units.

JUDAS PRIEST‘s 2005 CD, “Angel of Retribution”, premiered with 58,000 copies in the U.S. to debut at No. 13.

The following are the peak U.S. chart positions for the PRIEST catalog:

#11 – “Nostradamus” (2008)
#13 – “Angel of Retribution” (2005)
#165 – “Demolition” (2001)
#82 – “Jugulator” (1997)
#155 – “Metalworks” (1993)
#26 – “Painkiller” (1990)
#31 – “Ram It Down” (1988)
#38 – “Priest Live” (1987)
#17 – “Turbo” (1986)
#18 – “Defenders of the Faith” (1984)
#17 – “Screaming for Vengeance” (1982)
#39 – “Point of Entry” (1981)
#34 – “British Steel” (1980)
#70 – “Unleashed in the East” (1979)
#128 – “Hell Bent for Leather” (1978)
#178 – “Stained Class” (1978)

JUDAS PRIEST‘s most successful album to date is 1982’s “Screaming For Vengeance”, which spent 53 weeks on the Billboard charts, receiving gold RIAA sales certification on October 29, 1982, platinum on April 18, 1983 and double platinum October 16, 2001. The album included the band’s only U.S. top 100 hit single, “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin'”.

Other million-seller RIAA certifications for JUDAS PRIEST are “Priest Live” (October 29, 2001), “Turbo” (July 24, 1989), “Defenders of the Faith” (September 26, 1988), “British Steel” (August 9, 1989) and “Unleashed in the East” (November 10, 1989).

JUDAS PRIEST also has gold albums certifications (500,000 sales) for “Stained Class” (November 10, 1989), “Hell Bent For Leather” (November 10, 1989), “Point of Entry” (November 10, 1989), “Ram It Down” (July 18, 1988) and “Painkiller” (January 2, 1991).

In the band’s home country of the U.K., 1980’s “British Steel” remains their most successful outing, peaking at No. 4 in the charts and launching three hit singles: “Living After Midnight”, which peaked at No. 12; “Breaking The Law” No. 12 and “United” No. 26.

Speaking to the “Trunk Nation” show, which airs on SiriusXM‘s Hair Nation, singer Rob Halford stated about “Redeemer Of Souls”: “When we finished [the] ‘Epitaph’ [tour], we just got so buzzed from the fans and the reaction wherever we went. Just to put the ‘Epitaph’ tour together, which was we tried to put a song from every record into the show, and we were living in the life of JUDAS PRIEST, all those decades, in one show, night after night on the world trek, and I think that really did something to us internally; as musicians, it should do when you tour. So we realized that this next record really had to be really strong, full of energy, because it’s relentless, the tracks are relentless. The energy that you feel off ‘Redeemer Of Souls’ is replicated in that direction time and time and time again.”

Asked what the band was looking to achieve artistically on this record, Halford told VH1.com: “We never ever sit down and kind of premeditate what we’re going to do. That’s the great purity of PRIEST‘s music. It does come from the heart. We just sit down with a bunch of guitars and the riffs start cranking and we put the vocal melodies together and so on. So it comes from a very pure source. I think this was an opportunity after ‘Nostradamus’, our first concept record, which we had an amazing time putting together, but enough time had passed from it to kind of want to reaffirm who we are, which is a classic British heavy metal band. So with that thought in mind the metal started roaring and we feel that all of these songs from ‘Redeemer Of Souls’ reemphasize that statement about what this band is trying to be in the heavy metal world.” Guitarist Glenn Tipton added: “What we intended to do with this album is predominately create a live-sounding album. The guitars were all mic’ed up. The drums aren’t programmed, they’re played. We stripped down Rob‘s vocals to a bare minimum of effects and just wanted to play. First and foremost, JUDAS PRIEST are a great live band and that’s what we wanted to achieve in the studio.”

Regarding why there are five “bonus” tracks that are included on the deluxe version of “Redeemer Of Souls” and do not appear on the CD’s regular version, Tipton said: “They are all great songs. The reason they are not on the album is because the 13 that we chose are very consistent with what we wanted to do, which was release an undisputable heavy metal album. The others, they are not lightweight by any chance, but they’ve got a different feel, a different texture. So it’s not a case of trying to rip the kids off and trying to get more money for an extra album, it’s just a case of, these five tracks seem to deserve to go on their own CD, and that’s what we did.”

Added Halford: “We didn’t want to drop the energy. From the opening thunder-and-lightning on ‘Dragonaut’ right up ’till the end of ‘Battle Cry’, it’s just full-on, it’s relentless. It’s great.”

GODSMACK: First ‘1000hp’ Studio Webisode

The first of five webisodes featuring footage from the recording sessions for GODSMACK‘s new album, “1000hp” (One Thousand Horsepower), can be seen below.

The follow-up to 2010’s “The Oracle”, “1000hp” will be released on August 5 via Republic Records.

The “1000hp” title track and GODSMACK‘s first all-new single since 2011 arrived at rock radio stations on June 9 and can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna told The Pulse Of Radio that his original title for the song took things to the next level. “Actually, the original title I wanted to put on the song was ‘100,000 Horsepower’,” he said. “But unfortunately, rhythmically, it was too many syllables and I couldn’t make it fit the way I wanted to creatively, so I trimmed it back to ‘1000 Horsepower’, which is still pretty fuckin’ powerful, by the way.”

The “1000hp” digital single was made available on June 10. Erna told The Pulse Of Radio how the track came together: “It’s one of those songs that surprisingly came out and was written from back to front in, like, an hour. I started putting one thing together with the next, and then Shannon [Larkin, drummer] started jumping in and then we arranged the whole song, and literally within an hour, maybe 90 minutes, this whole song was written and it was one of the last songs that we wrote, and it ended up becoming the first single.”

Erna described the sound of the “1000hp” album to The Pulse Of Radio as “a little bit more raw, a little bit more open. The writing was a little freer. The production is really kind of raw and in your face, and the songs, man — I’m really, really excited about these songs. And I have to tell you honestly, I wasn’t that excited about writing this record at first.”

GODSMACK is among the confirmed bands for the 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival, set to kick off on August 15 in Clarkston, Michigan and run through September 21.

MOTÖRHEAD’s MIKKEY DEE On German Fan Who Suffered Bleeding In The Brain: ‘I’m Sure The Guy Can Forgive Us’

MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee has commented on a recent news report that a German heavy metal fan suffered bleeding in the brain after a night of headbanging at a MOTÖRHEAD concert. The 50-year-old fan complained of a two-week constant headache while being treated at Hannover Medical School and told doctors that he had been headbanging regularly for years. A CT scan showed he suffered from bleeding — medically known as chronic subdural haematoma — on the right side of his brain.

Speaking to Metal Hammer magazine before MOTÖRHEAD‘s performance at London’s Hyde Park last Friday (July 4), Dee said: “The first thing I thought [after hearing about the German metal fan] was, ‘Oh, no! Poor guy.’ Of course, we don’t want anyone to get hurt at our shows. And it obviously had a happy ending and they made something, for us, quite positive for it, I guess. They said, ‘It’s confirmed, MOTÖRHEAD is the hardest-rocking band in the world.'”

He continued: “I feel for the guy. I’m sorry for him that he ended up getting [injured] that bad from being at a MOTÖRHEAD show. But I think we’re gonna send him a hockey helmet and maybe a neck brace or something. He’s gotta take it a little bit cooler.”

Asked if he was surprised that something like this happened after a MOTÖRHEAD concert, Dee replied: “I’m not surprised at all, actually. This shit happens to us all the time. We said all these years that we’re like ‘Spinal Tap’ and no script. If it is gonna be any band that ends up with these type of stories, it’s obviously us. I’m not surprised. I just don’t like when it’s injury involved or people getting hurt, but if it does have a happy ending, yeah, I’m sure the guy can forgive us.”

Due to a production error, the release date of the reissue of MOTÖRHEAD‘s 21st studio album, “Aftershock”, originally scheduled for July 29 via UDR/Motörhead Music, has been pushed back to August 26. The CD was helmed by longtime producer Cameron Webb (MEGADETH, DISTURBED). The expanded edition will contain a bonus live CD — also recorded by Webb — consisting of live material comprised from the band’s historic appearances in early 2014.

“Aftershock” sold 11,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 22 on The Billboard 200 chart.

QUEEN + ADAM LAMBERT: Video Footage Of Second Las Vegas Concert

QUEEN has returned to North America for a 24-date arena tour with “American Idol” finalist Adam Lambert once again fronting the band.

Fan-filmed video footage of the tour’s second Las Vegas concert, which took place Sunday night (July 6) at The Joint at the Hard Rock, can be seen below.

QUEEN members Brian May and Roger Taylor recently admitted that their current collaboration with Lambert is a better fit than their previous involvement with legendary rock singer Paul Rodgers.

In 2008, May and Taylor, who had been touring with Rodgers as QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS, released the chart bomb, “The Cosmos Rocks”, before calling it a day as a trio and a recording entity — despite a string of globally sold-out concerts.

Paul has one of the greatest rock voices but it’s more blues- and soul-orientated I would have thought,” Taylor told the Toronto Sun. “I would say, with all due respect to Paul, that Adam is more suited to a lot of our material and whereas we had great tours with Paul, I think Adam is more naturally at home with us.” May concurred and added that Lambert‘s remarkable range and flamboyant stage presence are much more in line with those of QUEEN‘s original singer, Freddie Mercury. “Yeah, I think the styles match more closely in a sense,” May said. “But we had a great time with Paul, no doubt about it, and it kind of stretched it to a new place and, I think, a thoroughly good experience. But Adam is really… Like us, he has many, many colors, so we can explore some of those strange excursions that QUEEN likes to.”

QUEEN‘s North American tour with Lambert winds down on July 28 at Toronto, Ontario’s Air Canada Centre.

“It’s surreal,” Lambert told the Toronto Sun about performing with QUEEN. “Having auditioned with ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ on ‘American Idol’, and this weird full-circle gorgeous dream come true. When we did our first [tour] run, like giving a full set, it was definitely was intimidating. The idea that I would be in front of QUEEN die-hard fans and I was taking on a large chunk of the catalogue and it was a short time to put it together. And we did it and I think it turned out really, really beautifully, and then when the Vegas thing happened [September 2013 appearance at the iHeartRadio Festival], I feel like it really grounded itself a little bit more.”

The threesome first shared the stage during “American Idol” in May 2009 for a performance of “We Are The Champions”. They teamed up again in 2011 at the MTV European Music Awards in Belfast, Ireland for an electrifying eight-minute finale of “The Show Must Go On”, “We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions” and in the summer of 2012, Lambert performed a series of shows with QUEEN across Europe as well as dates in Russia, Ukraine and Poland. They also performed three sold-out gigs at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.

EVERY TIME I DIE’s ‘From Parts Unknown’ Cracks U.S. Top 25

“From Parts Unknown”, the new album from hardcore heroes EVERY TIME I DIE, sold around 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 22 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on July 1 via Epitaph.

It could have been easy for EVERY TIME I DIE to go on autopilot. After sixteen years as a band they know what works and could go on doing the same thing — but that would be “boring and baseless,” according to vocalist Keith Buckley. “Instead of making something that the kids can all sing along to, we wanted to make music that scares them,” he says.

So EVERY TIME I DIE brought out the big guns and spent a month recording with legendary producer and CONVERGE co-founder Kurt Ballou at his GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts.

“Working with Kurt was stressful in the best way, like when your dad comes to watch you play baseball for the first time and you just want to make him proud,” says Buckley. Ballou challenged the band to dig deeper, work quickly, and create heavy but catchy tracks. Vocals transverse from dark and light by swerving from scream to howl to like a fired-up war cry. Guitarists Jordan Buckley and Andy Williams, and drummer Ryan Leger cement their massive riffs, frantic rhythms, and brutal vocal work into a dozen of the most awesomely devastating songs the band’s created so far. Ballou has produced countless classic hardcore records for over 15 years, with recent releases including NAILS“Abandon All Life”, SKELETONWITCH‘s “Serpents Unleashed” and MODERN LIFE IS WAR‘s “Fever Hunting”.

The “From Parts Unknown” title was initially inspired by a term used by wrestlers to increase their mystique, It ultimately references the more hopeful mood that creeped into the album’s lyrics during songwriting.

“I didn’t even realize I had that more positive outlook in me,” notes Buckley. The positive outlook is especially impressive considering that a bout of laryngitis left Buckley laid up for much of the recording and forced him to tear through most of the vocal tracking in a single day. Adding to the already impressive state of this album, Brian Fallon of GASLIGHT ANTHEM and Sean Ingram of COALESCE lend their vocals to a few tracks as well.

“From Parts Unknown” track listing:

01. The Great Secret
02. Pelican Of The Desert
03. Decayin’ With The Boys
04. Overstayer
05. If There Is Room To Move, Things Move
06. Moor
07. Exometrium
08. Thirst
09. Old Light
10. All Structures Are Unstable
11. El Dorado
12. Idiot

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY: ‘Angel Of Mercy’ Video Released

“Angel Of Mercy”, the new video from BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, can be seen below. Directed by longtime collaborator Justin Reich of the Antimatter Studio, the clip depicts a stripped down version of the wall of sound that is widely associated with the band.

“Angel Of Mercy” is taken from BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s new studio album, “Catacombs Of The Black Vatican”, which sold around 26,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 5 on The Billboard 200 chart.

The band’s previous studio CD, “Order Of The Black”, opened with around 33,000 units to enter the chart at No. 4.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s 2006 album, “Shot to Hell”, registered a first-week tally of 32,000 to land at No. 21. This was less than the 45,000 copies shifted by BLS‘s “Mafia” (Artemis) back in March 2005 to debut at No. 15.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s “The Song Remains Not The Same” opened with around 12,000 copies to land at No. 41. Released on May 10, 2011 via Entertainment One Music, the offering featured unplugged versions of material from BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s “Order Of The Black” album as well as additional material recorded during the “Order Of The Black” sessions.

“Catacombs Of The Black Vatican” was released in Europe on April 7 via Mascot Label Group and one day later in North America through eOne Music.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY recently amicably parted ways with longtime guitarist Nick Catanese and replaced him with Dario Lorina (LIZZY BORDEN).

SOILWORK’s BJÖRN ‘SPEED’ STRID Suffers Serious Back Injury

Swedish metallers SOILWORK have been forced to cancel their appearance at this year’s Rockharz Open Air festival on July 11 in Ballenstedt, Germany due to a serious back injury suffered by their singer, Björn “Speed” Strid. This decision was a hard one for the band to make, especially since it is the second year in a row unforeseen circumstances have caused SOILWORK to scrap the group’s participation in the event.

Commented Strid: “It is with great regret that I have to inform you that I’m not gonna be able to perform at the Rockharz festival on Friday. It almost feels like a curse.

“I’m sure most of you know that we had to cancel last year’s Rockharz festival as well. We were so excited to make it up to you this year, but I guess we have to wait yet another year.

“I basically screwed up my back 10 days ago while working out. I felt a shooting pain and stopped immediately. That same night, my back started swelling. Next day, I felt better and in the coming days it healed up pretty fast. Then last Friday, I made a small movement to reach for the remote while watching World Cup football and I felt an intense shooting pain once again. I thought to myself, ‘This is gonna be bad.’ I was right.

“I’m currently not able to sit and can barely walk.

“I went to a chiropractor two days ago and he was unable to do anything since my back was too swollen and my torso was too twisted. He sent me home with anti-inflammatory pills and painkillers and told me to take those 3 times a day for 3 days and come back on Thursday, which is tomorrow. I also asked him if there was any chance for me to perform on Friday and he said: ‘It’s gonna take a miracle and I definitely don’t recommend it.’ I also informed him that we were gonna drive down in a van to Germany and then his reaction was: ‘Don’t do it.’

“So here I am, strapped to a couch feeling sorry for all the fans who had plans to finally see us at Rockharz.

“I’m so sorry, I wish there was a way… [I] hope you understand.

“Make sure you enjoy the rest of the awesome bands that are playing the festival; it looks like a real good lineup! Our guitarist Sylvain will be there regardless, so hopefully you’ll run into him and he’ll buy you a bunch of drinks.”

As previously reported, Dutch singer Floor Jansen (NIGHTWISH, REVAMP) joined SOILWORK on stage on March 21 at Circus in Helsinki, Finland. The concert was filmed for SOILWORK‘s first-ever live DVD, to be released later in the year. The DVD is being produced by Jouni Markkanen and directed by Ville Lipiäinen, who also helmed the most recent NIGHTWISH DVD, “Showtime, Storytime”.

SOILWORK‘s ninth studio and first dual-disc album, “The Living Infinite”, sold around 7,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 60. The effort also landed at No. 11 on the Independent Albums chart, and No. 2 on the Hard Music chart. “The Living Infinite” entered the iTunes Metal Top Albums chart at No. 1 and was the No. 1 most added album on the CMJ radio chart.

“The Living Infinite” was produced by Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, BLOODBATH) and boasts artwork by MNEMIC‘s Mircea Gabriel Eftemie. The CD features Justin Sullivan — lead singer of the English band NEW MODEL ARMY — as a guest vocalist on the track “The Windswept Mercy” and also marks the recording debut of longtime SOILWORK touring guitarist David Andersson (also of THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA).

DUFF MCKAGAN: ‘I Didn’t Have A Sense’ That KURT COBAIN Was Going To Die Two Days After I Saw Him

Former GUNS N’ ROSES bassist Duff McKagan, who shared a Seattle-bound flight with Kurt Cobain just days before the NIRVANA frontman’s suicide, and was one of the last people to speak with Cobain, talked about the encounter during a recent interview with Austria’s Mulatschag TV.

Said McKagan (see video below): “I was really fucked up [when I saw Kurt]. I mean, I wrote about it in my book, It was, like, 87 words. We were both fucked up. It wouldn’t have been a big deal… It was something, like, even at that time… we were just two fucked up guys, but we were both in big bands and we landed at the airport and we kind of talked about… I mean, my pancreas blew up four weeks later. He died two days later. So that’s where we were both at at our lives — at the end of our ropes. I didn’t have a sense that he was gonna die in two days, but again, a lot of my friends and peers were dying, or had died, and I was getting numb to it, getting used to it. And even when I got a call that he died, I didn’t fall out of my chair. It just happened. And I was too fucked up to really take it in. I was, like, ‘Oh, another one fell.'”

Although medical examiners determined that Cobain died on April 5, 1994, his body was discovered by an electrician three days later on April 8 — a little over 20 years ago.

The mystique around Kurt Cobain‘s life and early death has continued to grow in the nearly two decades since he passed away. NIRVANA bassist Krist Novoselic told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that he finds aspects of the fascination with his former bandmate unsettling. “There’s a cult that’s developed around the media perception of the person, Kurt Cobain, which has nothing to do with the person I knew,” he laughed. “You know, it’s a cult of personality, the cult of celebrity. NIRVANA really impacted a lot of people and connected with a lot of people, and when you deal with things on that level, it’s very positive, but there’s some negative aspects of it too, like, you know, just obsession.”

NIRVANA was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame on April 10 — five days after the 20th anniversary of Cobain‘s death — alongside KISS and others.

THE HAUNTED: New Song ‘Cutting Teeth’ Available For Streaming

“Cutting Teeth”, a brand new song from Swedish metallers THE HAUNTED, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. The track is taken from the band’s new album, “Exit Wounds”, which will be released on August 25 in Europe and September 2 in North America via Century Media. The CD was once again recorded with the group’s longtime producer Tue Madsen at Denmark’s Antfarm Studio (DARK TRANQUILLITY, HEAVEN SHALL BURN, SICK OF IT ALL) and features THE HAUNTED‘s revamped lineup: founding members Jonas Björler (bass) and Patrik Jensen (guitar) along with with returning members Adrian Erlandsson (drums) and Marco Aro (vocals), and the band’s latest addition, guitarist Ola Englund.

Aro states about “Cutting Teeth”: “Here’s an evil little piece of work that was one of the last songs we recorded for ‘Exit Wounds’. It represents quite a lot of what THE HAUNTED is all about: breaking new ground, pissing people off, exploring unfamiliar territories, all of this… just to feed the hungry machine that is THE HAUNTED! Always curious, always hungry, always thirsting for more… in words… ‘Cutting Teeth’!”

THE HAUNTED has also revealed that “Exit Wounds” features two special guests appearing on the song “Trend Killer”: Jed Simon (SCAR THE MARTYR, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD) on lead guitar and Chuck Billy (TESTAMENT) on vocals.

Said Billy: “I have always been a THE HAUNTED fan and became friends with the band over the years. When they asked if I would like to sing on a song for the new album with Marco singing, I didn’t have to think twice about doing it. When I received the track and listened for the first time, I said, ‘Fuck Yeah…this is gonna be brutal!'”

“Exit Wounds” track listing:

01. 317
02. Cutting Teeth
03. My Salvation
04. Psychonaut
05. Eye Of The Storm
06. Trend Killer (feat. Chuck Billy, Jed Simon)
07. Time (Will Not Heal)
08. All I Have
09. Temptation
10. My Enemy
11. Kill The Light
12. This War
13. Infiltrator
14. Ghost In The Machine

Comments Aro: “This time around we’ve found our way back to where we once started! You could say that we’ve gathered the old crew, both in music and the artwork.

“Our old friend Andreas ‘Diaz’ Pettersson is back, an amazing artist with a rap sheet which includes the artwork on no less than four THE HAUNTED albums. He always finds a way to put our thoughts into print where he sometimes even scares us a bit…and this release in no different.

“We decided on ‘Exit Wounds’ as being a good title for the album given the recent history of the band, but also a sort of a phoenix rising.

“We are so excited about this little thing we’ve created!

“Can’t wait to get out there and start playing these songs and for me personally, I could not be more proud of what we have done. I really hope you’re going to enjoy it!”

THE HAUNTED released a new three-song single, “Eye Of The Storm”, on January 20 in Europe and January 21 in North America via Century Media Records.

“Eye Of The Storm” was made available as limited-edition seven-inch EP (1,000 copies split as follows: 500 on black vinyl, 300 on red vinyl and 200 on white vinyl) and as digital single, featuring the new songs “Eye Of The Storm”, “Infiltrator” and “My Enemy”.

“Eye Of The Storm” track listing:

01. Eye Of The Storm
02. Infiltrator
03. My Enemy

The single marked the recording debut of THE HAUNTED‘s new lineup, which was announced last summer, featuring founding members Patrik Jensen (guitar) and Jonas Björler (bass), returning members Marco Aro (vocals) and Adrian Erlandsson (drums), as well as new guitarist Ola Englund.

THE HAUNTED‘s 2014 lineup:

* Patrik Jensen – Guitar
* Ola Englund (SIX FEET UNDER, FEARED) – Guitar
* Marco Aro (THE RESISTANCE, FACE DOWN) – Vocals
* Jonas Björler – Bass
* Adrian Erlandsson (AT THE GATES, PARADISE LOST) – Drums

Vocalist Marco Aro (ex-FACE DOWN, also in THE RESISTANCE) was previously involved with THE HAUNTED for three acclaimed releases between 1999 and 2003 as well as for several worldwide touring campaigns. Drummer Adrian Erlandsson (also in AT THE GATES and PARADISE LOST) belonged to the original lineup of THE HAUNTED together the Björler twins after the demise of their previous legendary group, AT THE GATES. Together with Jensen, they launched THE HAUNTED‘s self-titled debut in 1998, an album which has been widely considered as the kick-start for a new era in the thrash metal movement and which, despite its initial underground status, climbed to be a massively inspirational record for a whole new generation of musicians and bands in the following decade. Guitarist Ola Englund is a highly talented young player from Sweden, who has recently been active as touring and recording member of U.S. death metal institution SIX FEET UNDER.

SEETHER’s ‘Isolate & Medicate’ Cracks U.S. Top 5

SEETHER‘s new album, “Isolate & Medicate”, sold around 37,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 4 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD arrived in stores on July 1 via Bicycle Music/Concord Music Group.

SEETHER frontman Shaun Morgan told The Pulse Of Radio that the “Isolate & Medicate” title describes almost exactly the conditions under which he wrote the group’s new songs. “It sums up the process of writing the album,” he said. “I felt pretty sequestered at the time and I was in an interesting place personally. So I took refuge in this little studio that I built basically by hand and I won’t lie, there was plenty of red wine drank up there, there was, you know, the odd cigarette was smoked up there…it was definitely just that, it was me isolating myself and medicating myself in various different ways and making music.”

“Isolate & Medicate” is the fifth studio album under the SEETHER name and follows up 2011’s “Holding Onto Strings Better Left To Fray”. It marks the group’s debut with Concord Record Group after spending the first decade of their career on Wind-Up Records. The band teamed up again with ace producer Brendan O’Brien (PEARL JAM, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS) to deliver the most poignant, passionate and powerful record of their career.

SEETHER will play the Rock USA festival in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on July 16 before heading out with GODSMACK and others on the Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival, starting August 15 in Clarkston, Michigan.

Montreal, Quebec, Canada-based melodic death metallers THE AGONIST will release their new album, “Eye Of Providence”, on November 11 in North America (one day earlier internationally) via Century Media. The band’s first CD with new vocalist Vicky Psarakis was recorded at The Grid studio in their hometown with producer Chris Donaldson (CRYPTOPSY). The second in a series of video updates from the studio can be seen below.

THE AGONIST released a two-song digital single on April 29 via Century Media. These tracks were the first to feature Psarakis.

01. Disconnect Me
02. Perpetual Notion

Commented THE AGONIST guitarist Danny Marino: “Creating this album has been an amazing experience so far.

Vicky has breathed new life into the songwriting process and we are so excited to share these first two tracks with the world!

“The songs on this album represent a culmination of the past 10 years, as well as a new beginning for THE AGONIST. We’re also thrilled to be back in the studio with our old friend and longtime engineer Chris Donaldson.

“We can’t thank our fans enough for their ongoing support in this new and exciting chapter of THE AGONIST!”

The official lyric video for “Disconnect Me” can be seen below.

THE AGONIST‘s third album, “Prisoners”, debuted at No. 19 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
